We’re setting a HIGH Bar, once again.

On Sunday 5 October we are organizing an event for the Tag der Clubkultur week at the infamous Darkroomkneipe Ficken 3000.

The topic of this year’s Clubkultur awards, “Bridging Realities,” is a goal we have embraced since starting HIGH back in 2022. As a dark genderfuck techno ritual bridging generations, genres and genders, we have always aimed to create a safer space for folks who are marginalized by mainstream parties. While we have applied to this award to support our artists and crews, we also want to question its promotional narratives.

Berlin’s club culture has been built on subversive forces that 35 years ago found their home in liminal abandoned spaces, but in the past few years, in particular, this culture has made gentrification stronger and widespread. While Tag der Clubkultur talks about how “Berlin’s club culture has always been a driving force of cultural, artistic, and social innovation . . . by breaking with social and aesthetic norms,” we want to talk about how this work, particularly by groups marginalized by the mainstream, has been exploited and coopted to support capitalism and gentrification, and how these forces have been killing hopes as much as people.

With HIGH Bar, we walk the thin line between the bar above and the dark room below, connecting generations both alive and dead. For us, it’s about having to move the music to the basement because the new rich neighbours complain; it’s about the desire to forefront counternarratives while supporting the creation of counterculture; it’s about bridging realities, generations, classes and undercommons, because we are all in here for the same reason – not for success or fame, but to generate meaningful intersectional queer connections that can save our lives in this pharmacopornographic capitalist era.

Join HIGH Bar on the 5 October 14-22h at Ficken 3000, in defiance of mainstream club culture and towards the creation of more liberating forces while dancing, f*cking and conspiring together.
