HIGH Speed

Speed is a paradox.
Forget what you know.

Time is relative. It can stretch and squeeze but it cannot run backwards. We’ve only got so much of it. Yet, we choose to be rebellious. We speed up time in order to warp it, bending it to our desire and pleasure. By twisting spacetime into the sideways dimension of a rave ritual, we conjure momentary clusters of formless energy, suspending time in order to reimagine ourselves and the world.

If capitalism is measured by linear straight time, HIGH Speed summons a revalorized utopian time in the service of subaltern politics. Rather than invest in a deferred future, we invoke an actually existing queer reality, a kernel of political possibility within a stultifying heteropatriarchal present.

To conduct this ritual we must be open and aware. We challenge death. We challenge life. Yet, we do not forget a single thing. When we speed things up we can appreciate just how slow things can be. Ecstatic time collapses past, present and future in a moan of pleasure that celebrates an in-between time, that twilight, our queer horizon.

Let’s accelerate and then slow down again, together, in a dance of love and life – where a higher speed is not always fast as we imagine.
